Quyen Quach, whose family emigrated to New York City from Vietnam, started at P.S. 36X in 1987 as a first-grader still learning English and has kept coming back ever since — taking her first teaching job after college as a special education instructor at P.S. 36X, then becoming an instructional coach, assistant principal, and now principal.
“I think it gives me a perspective other school leaders might not have,” said Quach, who describes the cavernous Castle Hill building as a “home.”
Quach credits the school with helping turn her from a curious six-year-old still learning English into a confident fifth-grader who read voraciously and graduated as school valedictorian.....
