Eastern US on alert for a thumping from another major winter storm

AccuWeather forecasters are putting a large segment of the eastern United States on notice for another major winter storm expected to hit in the days ahead.

The wintry weather will be the result of a disruptive storm that will bury the Heartland under heavy snow then unleash substantial snow and ice across parts of the Southeast before taking an unusual route to the north from Sunday into Monday.

As it makes the trek north, it will trigger heavy snow, ice and rain throughout the mid-Atlantic, central Appalachians and New England.

The path the storm is predicted to take is extremely rare in that it will dive well to the south and southeast across the Central states before making a sharp turn to the north and northeast along the Atlantic Seaboard, according to AccuWeather meteorologists.....

Coastal Storm Could Bring Major Snow to Tri-State as Temperatures Seesaw

STORM TEAM 4: A developing coastal system could bring major snow to parts of our area late Sunday into Monday; here's what we know so far

Storm Team 4 is eyeing a developing coastal storm that could bring major snow and damaging winds to some in the tri-state late this weekend, though it's too early to predict potential totals or who could be hit worst with the track still five days out.

At this point, inland areas would be the ones to see the most snow potential. It would likely fall late Sunday and linger through Monday, which could make for a rough commute for those not observing the federal Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

Rain or ice is also possible. Either could make for significant travel impacts Monday....
