A powerful nor'easter threatens to slam the tri-state starting Friday, as a clearer picture of who will be impacted the most is starting to form — with well over a foot of snow likely for some.
The storm will begin to strengthen Friday night, which is when it will start impacting the tri-state. Some snow could start falling in southern New Jersey by the mid-evening, and there could be some snow showers elsewhere, but accumulation won't be much of anything until later at night.
It will intensify rapidly and meet the definition of a "bomb cyclone" as it strengthens — meaning a very strong, potent storm is likely. Utilities are already warning of preparations for power outages.
By the time the system reaches the city around midnight, heavy snow will have begun to fall. Expect steady snow to continue through early to mid-afternoon on Sunday in the five boroughs before tapering off by the evening....
