FLYING RATS: New York City Pigeon Pirates Ruffling Feathers By Netting Birds And Selling Them To Gun Clubs
NEW YORK POST: These Birds Are Sitting Ducks.
Pigeon pirates are spreading their wings on the streets of Manhattan, illegally netting the filthy squabs and then selling them out of state to be killed for sport, animal advocates allege.
The most recent pigeon pilfering took place Jan. 16, when Hell’s Kitchen residents Susan Tang and her husband, Nicholas, witnessed two men in a dark blue Dodge Caravan with New York plates toss seeds on the ground along 10th Avenue between 58th and 59th streets.
The poachers netted about 50 pigeons, tossed them into the van and sped off.
“We followed the van as much as we could to try to focus on the license plate, which was obscured by a plastic cover of some sort,” Susan Tang told The Post and noted on social media.
“The driver was aware he was being followed and was blowing red lights and almost struck a group of pedestrians.”
The couple snapped a photo of the getaway van during the 9:10 a.m. incident, notified cops and filed a complaint with 311 and the state Department of Conservation....
