UPPER EAST SIDE (MANHATTAN) NYC: Residents in two public housing complexes will be eligible to receive what will essentially amount to free broadband.
Under the initiative residents of the New York City Housing Authority’s Isaacs Houses and Holmes Towers will be eligible for steeply discounted broadband plans through Verizon and Spectrum.
People who qualify as low income are eligible for broadband packages that cost less than $30 monthly from those two providers.
The federal government also offers a $30-a-month subsidy under the Federal Affordable Connectivity Program.
To make sure residents are accessing those benefits two nonprofits, the "Education Super Highway" and the "Stanley Isaacs Center", will help residents sign up.
With the lower costs from providers like Verizon and Spectrum, along with the federal subsidy the program is 100% scalable to affordable housing developments in all five boroughs
