THE BRONX: Terror Squad Rapper Remy Ma Got Her Own Street Sign

THE BRONX (NYC) NY: Remy Ma the emcee and TV star first burst onto the scene in the mid-2000s and rose to fame in the Bronx.

Remy Ma first started rapping in the early 2000s under the mentorship of rap legend Big Pun.

After Big Pun’s death in 2000, fellow Bronx rapper Fat Joe signed Remy to his label, where she became a member of hip-hop group Terror Squad.

They released their second and final album, True Story, in 2004; the single “Lean Back” hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2004 and put Remy on the map, eventually earning her her first Grammy Award nomination.

Remy released her debut album There’s Something About Remy: Based on a True Story, which included the singles “Whuteva”, “Conceited” and “Feels So Good.”

In 2007, Remy was arrested for allegedly shooting a woman at a Manhattan nightclub, leading her to put her music career officially on hold as she served her time.

While behind bars, Remy released the mixtapes The BX Files, Shesus Khryst, and Blasremy. S

he was released in 2014.

The following year, she and her husband, fellow rapper Papoose, began starring in Love & Hip Hop: New York alongside other well-known industry figures, including Joe Budden, Safaree Samuels, and an up-and-coming rapper also from the Bronx named Cardi B.

Now, Remy Ma’s legacy will forever be a part of the Bronx streets, thanks to a brand-new street sign in her honor on the Bronx Walk of Fame

Past inductees include Regis Philbin, Luther Vandross, and hip-hop pioneers Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five.

During the ceremony revealing the street sign, Remy was accompanied by longtime collaborator and mentor Fat Joe, her husband and rapper Papoose, with Bronx borough president Vanessa L. Gibson and deputy president Janet Peguero also present to help celebrate the occasion.

The day before Remy Ma was added to the Bronx Walk of Fame, she and Papoose celebrated 14 years of marriage.
