CENSUS INSIGHTS: We all know areas like Tribeca, Soho, Upper East Side, and others when it comes to wealth, because they are portrayed in countless movies and TV shows - but we don't always stop to think about low-income areas.
So, What are the Poorest Neighborhoods?
According to ICPHusa.org's Poverty Report, the highest poverty rates are reported in East Harlem, South West Bronx and Central West Bronx. In those areas, poverty stands at 35-40%
The New York metropolitan area is divided into 51 districts, and the following 5 are considered the poorest ones according to statistics:
- District 16: West Bronx, Morrisania, Highbridge and Melrose.
- District 17: Melrose, Longwood, Hunts Point, Morrisania and Crotona Park East.
- District 15: Fordham, Bathgate, Bronxdale, Van Nest and Mount Hope.
- District 8: El Barrio/East Harlem and South Bronx.
- District 14: Fordham, Kingsbridge, Morris Heights and West Bronx.
