THE BOOGIE DOWN BRONX: Over 50 Affordable Units Available From $522/Month

MORRISANIA (SOUTH BRONX) NYC: A housing lottery opened this week for 57 low-income units at a new residential building in the Bronx.

Located at 3401 Third Avenue, the 10-story building, known as El Borinquen, is being developed by Comunilife, a non-profit that provides housing and health services to vulnerable residents.

New Yorkers earning 40 and 60 percent of the area median income, or between $17,898 for a single person and $72,060 for a household of three, can apply for the apartments, which range from $522/month studios to $1,065 one-bedrooms.

Designed by Alexander Gorlin Architects, the building contains 112 studio units, 35 one-bedroom apartments, and a two-bedroom unit for the super.

Amenities include 24-hour security, a laundry room, a community lounge, a computer lounge, bike storage, a landscaped garden courtyard, and on-site social services provided by Comunilife.

The property is located close to the 2 and 5 trains accessible at the Prospect Avenue subway station and the B train at the 167th Street station.

Qualifying New Yorkers can apply for the affordable units until August 5, 2022.
