FOCUS ON: Judge Elena Goldberg Velazquez, Candidate For New York State Supreme Court Justice
Prior to being elected to the Bench, Judge Elena Goldberg Velazquez worked at New York State Supreme Court, Appellate Division First Department (“Appellate Division”) for nearly a decade.
Prior to working at the Appellate Division, Judge Goldberg Velazquez worked at private law firms handling primarily civil matters.
When Judge Elena Goldberg-Velasquez stood for election in 2019 the Yonkers City Court was positioned with no women on the bench.
Judge Goldberg-Velazquez election brought a women to the court and as a mother of two young girls, was a welcome addition to serve those who stand before her in court, because of her qualifications and experience, but also as a female judge.
Her professional experience, coupled with her continuous civic engagement, provided Judge Goldberg-Velasquez with the skills and temperament to be an effective and fair member of the Yonkers City Court.
Over the years Judge Goldberg Velazquez has received numerous awards for her commitment to the community.
Judge Goldberg Velazquez is a graduate of CUNY School of Law, where she was the managing editor of the New York City Law Review.
Judge Goldberg Velazquez earned her Bachelors of Arts in Political Science and International Relations from Syracuse University where she graduated Pi Sigma Alpha.
While at Syracuse Judge Goldberg Velazquez was on the Dean’s List, a member of the nationally ranked Mock Trial Team.
Judge Goldberg Velazquez resides in Yonkers with her husband, two young daughters (Victoria and Charlotte) and the family dog, Ziggy.
